Mississauga Man Charged After Loaded Gun Seized in Burlington

A 28-year-old Mississauga man has been charged with numerous offences following an early morning traffic stop in Burlington that uncovered a stolen vehicle and a loaded handgun, according to Halton Police.

Officers responded to a suspicious vehicle call around 3:16 a.m. on Sunday in the area of Elodia Court on the city’s west mountain. A witness had reported a suspicious vehicle stopped in the neighbourhood.

Upon arrival, police located a grey Honda parked on Elodia with its lights off. The vehicle was confirmed to be stolen, with a file registered with Peel Regional Police.

As officers attempted to investigate, the driver allegedly rammed a police cruiser and attempted to flee. The suspect continued along Elodia and struck a second police cruiser, rendering both cruisers inoperable. The driver then exited the vehicle and fled on foot but was pursued and arrested a short distance away.

Police said the accused continued to resist after being taken into custody and refused to identify himself. During a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded Glock handgun on the front passenger seat.

Sammy Shaik has been charged with four weapons charges, dangerous operation of a vehicle, disguise with intent, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 (stolen auto).

Firearm and Cash Seized in Courtice

In a separate incident, Durham Regional Police executed a search warrant on a residence in Courtice in May 2026, leading to the seizure of a firearm with ammunition and over $118,000 in Canadian currency.

Daniella Burgher, 46, of Clarington, has been charged with two firearm-related offences. Robert Andrew Pinnock, 45, of Clarington, remains wanted on two firearm-related charges.

Toronto Man Charged with Fraud in Whitby

In a third incident, a 27-year-old Toronto man faces charges after allegedly attempting to open a bank account using fraudulent identification at a CIBC branch in Whitby.

On Thursday around 4 p.m., Durham Regional Police responded to a fraud call at 308 Taunton Rd. E. Bank staff contacted police after the suspect attempted to open an account with fraudulent documents. Officers arrested the suspect without incident, and a search produced multiple banking cards not in his name.

At the time of arrest, the accused was wanted by several other police services for similar offences and was bound by conditions not to possess any banking documents or cards unless in his name.

Rodrigo Martinez-Palacios is charged with fraud under $5,000, three counts of possess identity document of another, utter forged document, two counts of breach probation, and fail to comply with release order.
