OC Transpo has released new data detailing the most popular times for passengers to use its bus and O-Train services in Ottawa. The findings, based on recent ridership statistics, highlight clear morning and evening rush hour peaks.
Peak Hours for Buses
According to the report, bus ridership is highest between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., with a second surge from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Weekdays see the heaviest use, while weekends have a more gradual distribution throughout the day.
O-Train Usage Patterns
The O-Train follows a similar trend, with the busiest periods occurring during the same morning and afternoon windows. However, the O-Train also experiences a midday lull, with ridership dropping by nearly 40% between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Key Insights: The data shows that approximately 60% of all daily trips occur during the four-hour peak windows. This concentration underscores the need for continued investment in capacity and frequency during these times.
OC Transpo officials note that these patterns are consistent with previous years, though remote work has slightly reduced the morning peak intensity. The transit agency plans to use this data to optimize schedules and improve service reliability.
