Country Music Icon Ray Stevens Sustains Neck Injury in Nashville Fall

Legendary country music performer Ray Stevens is currently in recovery after suffering a broken neck from a fall that occurred in late March. The 87-year-old artist was briefly hospitalized following the incident on March 29 in Nashville, Tennessee, but has since returned home to continue his healing process.

Medical Recovery and Upcoming Album Release

According to an official statement released by his team on Tuesday via Instagram, Stevens has been instructed by medical professionals to wear a neck brace for approximately four weeks. Despite this significant injury, the statement emphasized that Stevens remains fully mobile and in good spirits throughout his recovery journey.

Importantly, the country star's upcoming album titled Favorites Old & New remains on schedule for release this Friday through Curb Records. This announcement confirms that the production and distribution timeline has not been disrupted by Stevens' recent health setback.

Recent Career Activity and Previous Health Concerns

Stevens had previously announced in January 2024 that he would be slowing down his music career and ceasing regular performances at his Ray Stevens CabaRay Showroom in Nashville by the end of that year. However, by December 2024, he had reversed this decision and returned to the venue to promote his album Say Whut?

This neck injury represents the latest in a series of health challenges for the veteran performer. Last July, Stevens underwent minimally invasive heart surgery after experiencing chest pain and being hospitalized. Medical examinations revealed he had suffered a mild heart attack, though the initial surgical intervention was reported as successful.

Decades-Long Musical Legacy

Ray Stevens, born Harold Ragsdale, has maintained a prominent presence in the music industry for nearly seven decades. His career began in 1957 when he signed with Capitol Records' Prep Records at just 18 years old. Among his numerous accomplishments:

  • The 1974 comedy hit The Streak that became a cultural phenomenon
  • Grammy Awards for his recordings of Everything is Beautiful and Misty
  • Induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in 2019
  • Membership in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame
  • Inclusion in both the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and Christian Music Hall of Fame

Stevens was married to his wife Penny Jackson Ragsdale for over sixty years until her passing in 2021. Together they raised two daughters and welcomed four grandchildren into their family.

The music community and fans worldwide continue to send well-wishes to the country legend as he navigates this recovery period while maintaining his characteristic positive outlook.
