Sarnia man charged with attempted murder after double run-over

A 21-year-old Sarnia man is facing a serious attempted murder charge following a violent altercation that saw a victim allegedly run over by a vehicle multiple times, according to local police.

Disturbance Leads to Dangerous Driving and Mischief

Sarnia Police were first called to a residence on Afton Drive just after midnight on Saturday, January 10, 2026. The initial call reported a disturbance involving two men, aged 21 and 40.

Investigators state that during this dispute, the younger man drove his red Mitsubishi SUV onto the older man's front lawn, intentionally damaging an e-bike. He then allegedly exited the vehicle, approached the home carrying a metal pipe, before fleeing the scene.

Based on video evidence gathered, police initially laid charges for dangerous driving, mischief, and breach of bail. However, they were unable to locate the suspect at that time.

A Second, More Violent Confrontation

The situation escalated dramatically later the same day. At approximately 1:46 p.m., officers were called back to the same area for a report of a citizen being struck by a vehicle.

Upon arrival, they found a man with serious injuries. Police obtained video footage that painted a chilling picture of the attack.

"Video footage showed a red Mitsubishi SUV reversing aggressively toward the victim, striking him, running over him, stopping, then moving forward and running him over again," the Sarnia Police Service detailed in a news release. The vehicle then fled the scene.

The injured man was transported to hospital for urgent medical care. He was listed in stable condition, though the full extent of his injuries remains unknown.

Arrest and Serious Charges Laid

The investigation was taken over by the Criminal Investigations Division. As a result, Hayden Leitch-Forte, 21, of Sarnia, was arrested and charged.

He now faces multiple charges, including the most severe: attempted murder. Additional charges include dangerous driving, mischief, and breaching a bail condition. Leitch-Forte is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

This case highlights a rapid escalation from a property dispute to an act of extreme violence, now under the full scrutiny of the judicial system.
