Ontario Provincial Police have laid charges against a suspect from southern Ontario and a local man following a traffic stop in Kirkland Lake last month that resulted in the seizure of drugs and cash valued at more than $16,000.
Details of the incident
The traffic stop occurred in late April when officers from the Kirkland Lake detachment pulled over a vehicle on Highway 66. During the stop, police discovered a quantity of suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, and Canadian currency. The total street value of the drugs and cash is estimated at over $16,000.
Charges laid
A 35-year-old man from southern Ontario faces charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, and possession of a controlled substance. A 42-year-old local man has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime. Both individuals were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court in Kirkland Lake at a later date.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not ruled out further charges.
