Sask Polytech Student Creates App to Find Open Parking Spots
App Connects Drivers to Open Parking in Saskatoon

Saskatchewan Polytechnic graduate Mousumi Dhar is developing a new mobile application called ParkSmart, designed to help drivers find available parking spaces in Saskatoon. The app aims to reduce the time spent circling city blocks in search of an open spot, thereby cutting down on traffic congestion and driver frustration.

How ParkSmart Works

ParkSmart leverages real-time data from sensors and user reports to identify vacant parking spots. Drivers can view available spaces on a map, reserve a spot, and pay through the app. The system also provides navigation to the chosen parking location.

Developer Background

Dhar, a recent graduate of Saskatchewan Polytechnic's software development program, conceived the idea after experiencing the difficulty of finding parking near the campus. She hopes the app will benefit both residents and visitors to Saskatoon.

Next Steps

The app is currently in the testing phase, with a full launch expected later this year. Dhar is seeking partnerships with local businesses and the city to expand the network of monitored parking spaces.
