Mazda Canada May 2026 Sales Drop 21% Year-Over-Year

Mazda Canada Inc. (MCI) has released its sales figures for May 2026, reporting a total of 6,281 vehicles sold. This represents a decline of 21.0 percent compared to May 2025. For the year-to-date (YTD) period, sales reached 27,551 units, down 16.1 percent from the same timeframe last year.

Month-Over-Month Gains Signal Recovery

Despite the year-over-year drop, the spring selling season showed signs of improvement. Total sales increased by 2.7 percent compared to April 2026, driven by strong sequential gains from key models such as the Mazda3, CX-5, CX-70, and CX-90. The month-over-month uptick indicates growing momentum as the summer months approach, even as broader market conditions continue to impact annual comparisons.

May 2026 Sales Highlights

The CX-5 remained the top-selling model in May and posted an 11.2 percent increase year-to-date. The CX-30 exhibited steady growth, rising 3.0 percent YTD. The CX-70 saw a notable 13.1 percent increase compared to May 2025, along with a 13.6 percent month-over-month gain. The Mazda3 recorded a 30.5 percent month-over-month surge, while the CX-90 was up 10.0 percent from April. The MX-5 also performed well, with a 15.5 percent year-over-year increase.

Passenger car sales totaled 1,150 units in May, down 24.9 percent from 1,532 a year earlier. YTD passenger car sales were 4,230, a 20.0 percent decline. Light truck sales reached 5,131 units in May, a 20.0 percent decrease from 6,414 in May 2025. YTD light truck sales stood at 23,321, down 15.3 percent.
