Nomad Wall Printing Introduces Portable Wall Art Technology to Saskatchewan
In the dynamic landscape of Saskatoon's business community, where organizations frequently open and relocate, a novel service is making walls come alive with vibrant imagery. Trevor Block, the visionary behind Nomad Wall Printing, has launched a portable printing business that enables clients to adorn virtually any wall with graphics, text, logos, and artwork of any color.
A Creative Entrepreneur's Journey
Trevor Block's path to wall printing began with a deep-seated passion for creativity. Growing up on a farm near Borden, Saskatchewan, he later moved to Vancouver, where he immersed himself in photography and videography. Upon returning to Saskatchewan, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted his plans, leading him to work at a local Honda dealership. However, his creative spirit was reignited when he discovered wall printing technology online.
"I thought it was the coolest thing ever," Block recalls. "I bought the wall printer, quit my job, and started the business last May. The creative end of it drew me into it. I really like how you can make a space feel creative or branded."
What Is Wall Printing?
Wall printing is exactly what it sounds like: a method for applying large-scale imagery, branding, or art directly onto walls. Unlike traditional methods such as vinyl, stencils, or wallpaper, this technology prints directly onto surfaces without adding extra materials. Block's printer, sourced from Germany, can handle a variety of materials, including brick, cement, glass, drywall, and metal.
"The fact that I can print on pretty well any material gives you flexibility," Block explains. He shares an example of printing on acrylic with a backlight, creating a glowing effect that showcases the technology's versatility.
A Rare and Emerging Technology
Wall printing remains uncommon, with Block believing he is the only practitioner in Saskatchewan. The technology is relatively new, just a few years old, and Block connects with other owners across Canada, the United States, and Europe to share insights and foster industry growth.
"I love the fact that I'm bringing new technology into Saskatchewan and trying to get ahead of what I think is going to be a mainstream business at some point," he says. "Now as I bring it to people and businesses and even homes, most of the time people find it very intriguing and very interesting and very cool."
Key Features and Capabilities
- Color Flexibility: No limitations on colors, with precise color accuracy for branding needs.
- Size Range: Can print as wide as desired and up to 13 feet tall, suitable for large walls in schools or warehouses.
- Material Compatibility: Works on most surfaces, though very jagged materials may pose challenges.
- Design Assistance: Block helps clients create designs, leveraging AI and creative input to bring visions to life.
- Mobility: The printer breaks down into portable bags, allowing Block to travel across Saskatchewan, including Regina and Prince Albert.
Applications and Environmental Benefits
Nomad Wall Printing has served businesses, clinics, daycares, schools, and homes. Projects range from logo branding to artistic quotes and themed children's rooms, such as a Super Mario-themed space. When clients wish to update their walls, they can simply paint over the printing, eliminating waste and offering an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional materials.
"In wall printing, you're not having to print something on a different material that you're adding to your wall. You're just printing straight to the wall," Block notes, appreciating the sustainability aspect.
Looking Ahead
As Block continues to introduce this innovative technology to Saskatchewan, he aims to build awareness and demonstrate its potential for enhancing spaces. With services available Monday to Saturday, Nomad Wall Printing represents a fusion of creativity, technology, and entrepreneurship, poised to transform walls across the province.
