Jason Trussell, a local McDonald's franchise owner in Windsor, has been recognized as one of the top two fundraisers for Ronald McDonald House in Canada. His team raised an impressive $244,000 this year, surpassing last year's record of over $224,000.
A Legacy of Giving Back
Trussell's high school yearbook once predicted he would be "most likely to own a McDonald's." Today, he owns 11 locations across Windsor and has made community service a cornerstone of his business. "At the end of the day we serve burgers, fries, some great coffee and drinks, but at the heart of ourselves is what we do for the community," he said.
Fundraising efforts included the Big Red Shoe Run and Ronald's House of Champions events in Windsor. Trussell also focuses on selling socks and McDonald's merchandise on McHappy Day. Additionally, he offers incentives for employees to donate $2 in exchange for free meals during the summer, generating thousands of dollars across his branches.
Community Impact Beyond Fundraising
Trussell's commitment extends beyond Ronald McDonald House. He donated over $23,000 to build an outdoor basketball court at the Windsor-Essex Youth Wellness Hub. His team prioritizes charity work that is Windsor-focused and relevant to guests and employees. "I was a kid, I get how tough it can be," Trussell noted. "We also employ a ton of youth in the restaurants and having these resources in today's environment is super important."
Through constant year-round efforts, Trussell ensures that Ronald McDonald House and other community charities remain top of mind. His dedication has made him a standout figure in the community, proving that business success and philanthropy can go hand in hand.
