Barrie Man Drives at Highway Speeds in Residential Area

A Barrie man is facing charges after police say he drove at highway speeds through a residential neighborhood. The incident occurred late Tuesday night, according to a news release from Barrie Police Service.

Details of the Incident

Officers responded to reports of a vehicle speeding in the area of Grove Street and Dunlop Street East around 11:30 p.m. Witnesses described a car traveling at speeds estimated to be over 100 km/h in a zone with a posted limit of 50 km/h. Police located the vehicle a short time later and conducted a traffic stop.

The driver, a 34-year-old Barrie man, was arrested and charged with dangerous driving and speeding. He was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date. His vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Police Statement

“Driving at highway speeds in a residential area is extremely dangerous and puts everyone at risk,” said Constable Sarah Smith of the Barrie Police Service. “We are fortunate that no one was injured. We urge all drivers to obey speed limits and drive responsibly.”

The investigation is ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
