Windsor Police have charged a driver after a vehicle was recorded travelling at 174 kilometres per hour on the E.C. Row Expressway, more than double the posted speed limit of 80 km/h. The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, according to police reports.

Details of the Incident

Police say that an officer observed a vehicle speeding eastbound on the expressway near the Huron Church Road area. The driver was pulled over and subsequently charged with stunt driving under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act. The charge carries a minimum fine of $2,000, a seven-day vehicle impoundment, and a licence suspension of up to 30 days.

Stunt Driving Penalties

Under Ontario law, driving 40 km/h or more over the speed limit on a road with a posted limit of 80 km/h or more constitutes stunt driving. This also includes driving at 50 km/h or more over the limit on roads with lower posted speeds. Offenders face immediate licence suspension, vehicle impoundment, and a court appearance.
