Essex County OPP has charged a 47-year-old Kingsville man with multiple offences after he was observed speeding through stop signs on an electric bicycle and breaching a prior trespass order. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on May 1, when police saw the rider travelling at a high rate of speed without stopping at intersections along Queen Street and Stewart Street in Kingsville.
Details of the Incident
According to police, the rider was later located at a business on Wigle Avenue, where he had previously been issued a trespass notice. He was arrested and charged with failure or refusal to comply with a demand, two counts of failing to stop at a stop sign, failing to wear a proper helmet on a power-assisted bicycle, and entering and engaging in prohibited activity on premises where he was banned.
Penalties and Court Date
As a result of the charges, a 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension was issued, and the e-bike was impounded for seven days. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor on June 11 to answer to the charges.
Police emphasized the importance of community safety, stating, “The safety of our community is paramount, and we will continue to enforce impaired driving laws to keep our roads safe. Traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
