Tired of Waiting in Line? Taskrabbit Now Lets You Hire Someone to Queue for You
Hire Someone to Wait in Line for You with Taskrabbit

Taskrabbit, the online marketplace known for connecting people with helpers for chores and handyman tasks, has introduced a new service: waiting in line for you. As summer brings major events like concerts, festivals, Blue Jays games, and the FIFA World Cup to Toronto, the company aims to save time for those who dread long queues.

According to Taskrabbit Canada's general manager Pashv Shah, nearly three-quarters (73%) of Canadians have abandoned a line because it was too long, and 30% have missed appointments or events due to waiting. The service allows users to hire a "Tasker" to hold their spot, freeing them to enjoy other activities.

Convenience at a Cost

Nearly half (45%) of Canadians have waited over an hour in a single queue, and only 27% believe long waits are worth it. Patience typically runs out at the 20-minute mark for 43% of respondents. While 28% would pay to skip a line, Shah notes that many already pay for convenience, such as using toll highways like Hwy. 407.

How It Works

Users open the Taskrabbit app or website, describe the task including location, time, and expected wait duration. Available Taskers in the area, along with their rates and reviews, are displayed. After selecting a Tasker and confirming details, the Tasker shows up to queue. When ready, the user takes their spot.

Shah shared a personal example: on Victoria Day, he hired a Tasker to wait at Pizzeria Badiali while his family enjoyed Trinity Bellwoods neighbourhood.

A Side Hustle Opportunity

For those with patience, becoming a Tasker offers flexible income. After registration and a background check, Taskers set their own profiles, choose categories, and set rates. "On average, Canadian Taskers earn $46 an hour across all tasks and keep 100% of earnings, including tips," Shah said. "It's a meaningful income opportunity with the freedom to be your own boss."

With the FIFA World Cup, festival season, and limited-edition merchandise drops ahead, Taskrabbit's line-waiting service could become a popular convenience for Toronto residents and visitors alike.
