Impaired Driver Charged After Evading RIDE Checkpoint

An allegedly impaired driver has been charged after attempting to evade a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint in St. Thomas, Ontario. The incident occurred late Thursday night when officers from the St. Thomas Police Service were conducting a routine RIDE stop on Wellington Street.

According to police, a vehicle approached the checkpoint but then abruptly turned onto a side street in an attempt to avoid the stop. Officers pursued the vehicle and located it a short distance away. The driver, a 34-year-old man from St. Thomas, was taken into custody without further incident.

The man faces charges including impaired driving, flight from police, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date. His driver's license has been suspended for 90 days as per Ontario's Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension program.
