Windsor, Ontario – Mold makers and Conservative Members of Parliament are urging the federal government to provide immediate financial assistance to the tool and mold industry, which is facing severe economic pressure from heightened U.S. tariffs. Aaron Aalbers, president of Aalbers Tool and Mold, emphasized the urgent need for support to offset the impact of recent tariff changes imposed by the United States.
Industry Leaders Sound Alarm
Speaking on May 2, 2026, Aalbers highlighted that the industry is struggling to remain competitive as tariffs increase costs and reduce demand. He called for targeted aid to prevent job losses and business closures. The plea comes as part of a broader push by industry stakeholders and political representatives to secure federal intervention.
Political Support for Relief
Several Tory MPs have joined the call, arguing that the mold making sector is vital to Canada’s manufacturing ecosystem. They are pressing Ottawa to negotiate tariff relief or provide compensation to affected companies. The MPs warn that without action, the industry could face irreversible damage.
This development coincides with other news in Windsor, including a proposal by Ward 7 councillor for a new Windsor-Detroit freedom festival once political tensions ease, and the naming of a popular road as 'Lebanese Way' to honor the local community.
