Waterloo Regional Police have arrested six individuals and seized a quantity of drugs following a raid in downtown Kitchener. The operation, which took place on Thursday, was part of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking in the area.
Details of the Raid
Police executed a search warrant at a residence in the vicinity of King Street and Victoria Street. During the search, officers located and seized a variety of illicit substances, including cocaine, fentanyl, and methamphetamine. The estimated street value of the drugs has not yet been disclosed.
Six suspects, whose identities have not been released pending formal charges, were taken into custody. They are expected to face multiple charges related to drug trafficking and possession.
Community Impact
Residents in the area expressed relief at the police action. "It's good to see the police taking action. This has been a problem spot for a while," said local business owner Maria Santos. Police have increased patrols in the downtown core as part of their strategy to combat drug-related crime.
Ongoing Investigation
The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward. "We are committed to disrupting the drug trade in our community," said Inspector James Turner of the Waterloo Regional Police Service. "This operation is a significant step in that direction."
Authorities are also reminding the public to report suspicious activity and to seek help for addiction through local support services.
