Toronto Public Health is launching a unique initiative to promote sexual health during the FIFA World Cup by distributing free soccer-inspired condoms. The condoms, which feature designs celebrating the energy of the games, are now available at four sexual health clinics across the city: Bloor West (2340 Dundas St. W.), Scarborough (160 Borough Dr.), Jane-St. Clair (662 Jane St.), and North York (5110 Yonge St.). They are also being offered at community partner clinics and agencies throughout Toronto.
Promoting Safe Celebrations
The condom distribution aims to encourage safe sex practices among residents and visitors during the World Cup festivities. “Don’t pass up protection,” a public health official urged, emphasizing the importance of preventing sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancies. The colorful condom wrappers feature soccer motifs, aligning with the global sporting event.
Availability and Reach
In addition to the four sexual health clinics, the condoms are accessible at various community partner locations. This initiative is part of Toronto Public Health’s broader efforts to integrate sexual health promotion into community events. The program is expected to run throughout the World Cup period, with supplies available while they last.
Community Response
Early reactions from the public have been positive, with many appreciating the creative approach to health messaging. “It’s a fun way to remind people to stay safe,” said one clinic visitor. Toronto Public Health hopes the campaign will spark conversations about sexual health and reduce stigma around condom use.
