Mississauga Man Gets Life for Vaughan Nightclub Shooting

Kensworth Alton Francis, 31, of Mississauga, has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years after being convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of unlawfully causing bodily harm for a 2022 double fatal shooting at a Vaughan nightclub.

Details of the Shooting

York Regional Police said that on July 23, 2022, at about 3:30 a.m., officers responded to the ATL Lounge on Hwy. 7 and found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Two victims succumbed to their injuries: Tosin Amos-Arowoshegebe, 25, and Chibueze Momah, 22. A 20-year-old woman was also injured but survived.

Members of the York Regional Police homicide unit partnered with the BOLO Program, the RCMP Interpol Fugitive Apprehension Support Team, and the U.S. Marshals Service to locate Francis, who was wanted on a nationwide warrant.

Arrest and Extradition

On March 26, 2024, Francis was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Hartford, Conn. Investigators worked with the Ministry of the Attorney General to extradite him to York Region. Francis was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. Following a jury trial, he was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of unlawfully causing bodily harm.

Sentencing

He was sentenced on Friday at the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket to two life sentences for first-degree murder with no parole eligibility for 25 years. Francis was also sentenced to eight years in prison for unlawfully causing bodily harm, to be served concurrently.
