A storm system moving into Atlantic Canada is expected to bring a mix of rain, strong winds, and possible snow, prompting weather warnings across the region. The system, which arrived early Tuesday, is forecast to intensify through the day, affecting travel and power infrastructure.
Weather Warnings in Effect
Environment Canada has issued rainfall and wind warnings for much of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador. Rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 millimeters are expected, with localized higher amounts possible. Winds could gust up to 90 kilometers per hour in coastal areas, posing a risk of power outages and property damage.
Snow Possible in Higher Elevations
In parts of northern New Brunswick and Newfoundland, the rain may transition to snow as temperatures drop. Accumulations of 5 to 10 centimeters are possible, particularly in elevated terrain. Drivers are urged to exercise caution as roads may become slippery.
Precautions and Advice
Officials recommend securing loose outdoor objects, avoiding non-essential travel, and preparing emergency kits. Power companies are mobilizing crews to respond to potential outages. Residents are advised to stay updated through local weather alerts.
The storm is expected to move offshore by Wednesday evening, with improving conditions by Thursday.
