USW Local 3505 Ratifies Four-Year Slacan Industries Agreement

Members of United Steelworkers Local 3505 have successfully ratified a new four-year collective agreement with Slacan Industries in Brantford, Ontario. The agreement, which was finalized on Saturday, March 11, 2026, covers 116 workers and introduces significant improvements in wages, benefits, and workplace protections.

Key Details of the Ratified Agreement

The newly ratified contract includes wage increases over the four-year term, enhancements to employee benefits, and strengthened language concerning health and safety protocols as well as training programs. A notable addition is the introduction of an attendance recognition program, which allows members to earn a monetary reward of up to five percent of their annual wages based on attendance.

Union Leadership Comments on the Agreement

Kevon Stewart, USW District 6 Director, emphasized the strength and solidarity of the membership in achieving this outcome. "This agreement reflects the strength and solidarity of our members," Stewart stated. "Through collective action and fair bargaining, Local 3505 members secured improvements that recognize their work and strengthen protections for workers on the job."

Bob Yates, USW Area Co-ordinator, who worked closely with the local bargaining committee, praised the efforts of the membership. "This was a strong effort by the bargaining committee and the membership," Yates said. "By staying united and focused on their priorities, the members were able to reach an agreement that strengthens their contract and supports workers and their families."

Local President Expresses Relief and Gratitude

John Barton, President of Local 3505, expressed relief at reaching an agreement that meets the needs of the members. "I’m relieved we were able to reach an agreement that reflects what our members need," Barton commented. "This four-year agreement brings stability during uncertain times and helps ensure our members can support their families and plan for the future. I’m also incredibly grateful for the support we received from the Steelworkers family and the broader labour community throughout this process."
