Canadian aerospace giant Bombardier Inc. is making a major strategic move to expand its production capabilities. The company has announced a $100 million investment to construct a new manufacturing centre in the Greater Montreal area.
A Strategic Expansion for Growing Demand
This significant capital project is a direct response to the sustained demand for Bombardier's business aircraft. The company stated the new facility is a key part of its long-term plan to enhance productivity and output. The investment is bolstered by financial support from the Quebec government, with its economic development agency, Investissement Québec, providing a $35 million loan.
The new plant, slated to be 126,000 square feet in size, will be built near Bombardier's existing complex in Dorval, Quebec. Construction is underway with an expected opening date in 2027. While Bombardier has not detailed the specific manufacturing processes for the new site, its Montreal-area operations are crucial, currently handling the assembly of Challenger jets and the interior completion of the larger Global aircraft family.

This expansion comes at a time of robust activity for the business jet manufacturer. The announcement follows a landmark deal last year, where Bond Aviation Holdings—a new fractional-ownership company backed by investment firm KKR & Co.—placed an order for 50 Bombardier aircraft valued at US$1.7 billion, with an option for 70 more.
Beyond commercial aviation, Bombardier is also exploring opportunities in defense. The company is in discussions with Sweden's Saab AB about the potential to assemble Gripen fighter jets in Canada, should the Canadian government pursue such an agreement. The two firms already collaborate on the GlobalEye surveillance aircraft, which uses a Bombardier Global 6500 airframe fitted with advanced Saab radar systems in Sweden.
