Finch West LRT Service Halted Friday Due to Blocked Tracks, Communication Issues
Finch West LRT Service Disrupted by Blocked Tracks

Commuters in North Toronto faced significant transit disruptions on Friday morning as the newly opened Finch West LRT experienced a major service halt. The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) confirmed there is currently no light rail service on a key section of the line.

Service Halted on Multiple Segments

The TTC announced around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, December 26, 2025, that there was no service on the Finch West LRT between Finch West and Tobermory stations. The initial cause was cited as "communication issues."

To mitigate the problem for stranded passengers, the TTC immediately deployed shuttle buses. These buses are running between Finch West and Humber College stations, covering the entirety of the affected line.

Dual Problems Cause Widespread Disruption

The situation was compounded by a second, separate issue further down the line. The transit agency reported that there was also no service between Driftwood and Humber College stations. This stoppage was due to blocked tracks, with shuttle buses also running to accommodate passengers on that segment.

This means the communication issues initially affected Line 6 service between Finch West and Driftwood stations, while the blocked tracks crippled service on the western leg of the route. As of Friday morning, the TTC has not provided an estimate for how long the dual disruptions will last.

Latest Challenge for Problem-Plagued Line

This incident is the latest in a series of operational challenges for the Finch West LRT, which officially opened to the public on Sunday, December 7, 2025. The long-delayed project has experienced an abundance of issues since its launch mere weeks ago.

Riders have previously complained about sluggish service and the line has already been hit by switch issues. The repeated problems have prompted public assurances from Mayor Olivia Chow, who has promised to address the slow travel times, stating, "It can be faster."

The TTC is advising all passengers travelling along the Finch West corridor to allow for extra time and to expect significant delays while shuttle bus service is in effect.
