As summer approaches and temperatures rise, Ottawa residents will soon have two new places to cool off along the Ottawa River, according to the National Capital Commission (NCC).
New Swimming Locations
The NCC announced on June 3 that two new swimming docks will be installed this summer. One dock will be located on the Quebec side of the river, behind the Canadian Museum of History. The other will be on the Ontario side, attached to the East Wharf platform near the Rideau Canal locks.
These additions aim to meet the growing demand for public waterfront spaces. The NCC noted that last summer, its flagship waterfront sites recorded over one million visits, highlighting the increasing popularity of these areas.
Background and Details
Last June, the NCC opened an unsupervised swimming dock at Dow's Lake in Commissioner's Park. The new docks may or may not be supervised; the NCC has not specified but promises more information will be shared via its social media and website.
Renderings released by the NCC show the proposed docks, which are designed to blend with the natural surroundings and provide easy access for swimmers.
