Vehicle Crashes into Windsor Home; Careless Driving Charge Laid

A residence in east Windsor sustained significant damage after a vehicle collided with it early Sunday morning, leading to a careless driving charge against the driver.

Incident Details

Shortly after 5 a.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2026, Windsor police responded to reports of a vehicle crashing into a home in the 1300 block of Pillette Road. Officers discovered that the driver had lost control of a white SUV, which then struck the brick residence.

The driver suffered only superficial physical injuries and was not transported to a hospital, according to Windsor police spokesperson Const. Andie Suthers in an email to the Star.

Legal Consequences

Police charged the driver with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act. No criminal charges were filed. The cost of the structural damage to the home has not yet been determined, police said.

Additional Incidents in Essex County

In a separate incident in Essex County, a two-vehicle collision led to the arrest of a 28-year-old. At around 7:20 p.m. on Saturday, Ontario Provincial Police responded to a crash in Leamington. A vehicle had fled the scene of a collision on Talbot Street East near Lutsch Avenue.

Police located and charged a Leamington resident with careless driving, failure to remain at the scene of a collision, operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol and drugs, and exceeding the legal blood alcohol concentration. The driver's license was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

In Kingsville on Friday afternoon, Ontario Provincial Police laid several Highway Traffic Act and criminal charges against an e-bike driver after observing the vehicle speeding through town and ignoring multiple stop signs. The 47-year-old man was later found at an establishment on Wigle Avenue, where he had previously been served with a trespass notice. He was charged with failure or refusal to comply with a demand, two counts of disobeying traffic signs, failure to wear a proper helmet on a power-assisted bicycle, entering a premises when entry is prohibited, and engaging in a prohibited activity on the premises. The man also received a 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
