A 58-year-old woman has died after being struck by an SUV while crossing at a marked crosswalk in north Edmonton, according to Edmonton Police Service.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The collision occurred on Saturday morning at 8:57 a.m. near the intersection of 153 Avenue and 82 Street. Police reported the woman was walking her dog and crossing northbound when a 2024 Nissan Rogue traveling southbound made a left turn and struck her.
Emergency medical services paramedics provided immediate treatment at the scene before transporting the victim to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. Despite medical intervention, she succumbed to her injuries later Saturday evening.
Investigation and Community Impact
The driver of the vehicle, identified as a 36-year-old woman, remained at the scene following the collision and was uninjured. Police have confirmed that speed and alcohol were not factors in this incident.
The woman's dog initially ran away from the scene but was later located by City of Edmonton Animal Control and safely returned home.
This tragic event marks Edmonton's 30th traffic fatality of 2025, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety in the city.
