Villa Charities Inc., a registered charity and non-profit organization based in Toronto, has proudly announced the launch of the Aielli Mural Project in collaboration with Borgo Universo. This innovative program provides a unique opportunity for one emerging Canadian artist to travel to Aielli, Italy, and contribute to the village's renowned open-air museum through the creation of a mural. The initiative aims to celebrate the historical connections between Italy and Canada while fostering artistic exchange on an international scale.
A Cultural Renaissance in Aielli
Aielli, a medieval village nestled in the Sirente-Velino Regional Park and overlooking the Fucino Plain in Abruzzo, has undergone a significant cultural revival over the past decade. This transformation is largely attributed to Borgo Universo, a series of initiatives that blend art and science to attract tourism and revitalize the community of approximately 1,400 residents. The village now features an extensive open-air gallery adorned with murals, sculptures, and installations created by street artists from around the world, all under the patronage of Borgo Universo.
To support and promote these artistic endeavors as a tourist attraction, the non-profit cooperative La Maesa was established. Through this partnership with Villa Charities, the Aielli Mural Project seeks to expand its international reach by incorporating Canadian creativity into the village's vibrant cultural tapestry.
