The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts has announced its 29th season, running from October 2026 to May 2027. The lineup includes a diverse array of authors, musicians, and multimedia presentations.
Four Series of Performances
The season is divided into four series: Chan Centre Presents, Chan Centre EXP, Chan Centre Insights, and National Geographic Live. Highlights include Canadian author Naomi Klein, African pop star Angélique Kidjo, jazz legends Branford Marsalis and Dianne Reeves, and the Ghibli Jazz Orchestra from Vancouver.
Memberships and Ticket On-Sale Dates
Plus Members can apply a 20% discount starting now, while Basic Members receive a 10% discount from June 4 at noon. General ticket sales begin June 5 at noon via chancentre.com. All shows start at 7:30 p.m. unless noted otherwise.
Chan Centre Presents Series
- Oct. 9: Jóhann Jóhannsson: Cinematic Suites – A multimedia event featuring the Icelandic composer known for film scores like Arrival and The Theory of Everything.
- Oct. 13: Branford Marsalis and Dianne Reeves Celebrate John Coltrane – Jazz icons honor Coltrane's 1963 collaboration with Johnny Hartman.
- May 2: Angélique Kidjo – The African star performs songs from her new album HOPE!
- May 16: Christian Li – The youngest-ever winner of the Menuhin Competition presents violin repertoire.
Chan Centre EXP Series
- Oct. 24: Ghibli Jazz Orchestra presents the Music of Studio Ghibli and Joe Hisaishi – An 18-piece local orchestra performs anime film soundtracks.
- Nov. 28: Elijah Fox – Pianist who has worked with SZA, Yussef Dayes, and Childish Gambino.
- April 30: Jean-Michel Blais – Juno-nominated Montreal composer known for lush soundscapes.
Chan Centre Insights Series
- Oct. 8: Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor: End Times Fascism – Examining the rise of apocalyptic politics.
- Oct. 15: An Evening with Zadie Smith – The major literary voice discusses her work.
- Nov. 5: An Evening with Min Jin Lee – Author of Pachinko discusses her new book American Hagwon in her first in-person event in Canada.
- Feb. 6: An Evening with Fran Lebowitz – The iconic cultural critic delivers observations.
- Feb. 11: An Evening with Chani Nicholas – B.C. astrologer talks about planetary positions.
National Geographic Live Presentations
- Nov. 18: Wild Cats Revealed – BAFTA-winning filmmaker Sandesh Kadur discusses wild cats.
- Jan. 20: Earth After Dark – Photographer Babak Tafreshi explores the cosmos.
- March 31: Weird World of Frogs – National Geographic Explorer Jodi Rowley shares fascinating frog facts.
