First Look Inside Vancouver's New Freedom Mobile Arch

Vancouver's newest live entertainment venue, the Freedom Mobile Arch at Hastings Park, opens its doors with a stunning design and breathtaking views of the North Shore mountains. This state-of-the-art amphitheatre replaces the nearly century-old PNE Amphitheatre and promises to become a cultural hub for the city.

Grand Opening and Upcoming Events

The venue officially opened on June 5, 2026, and will host the FIFA Fan Festival from June 11 to July 19. After the festival, it will operate under its permanent name for the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) Summer Nights Concerts, starting with Canadian roots rockers Blue Rodeo on August 22.

Architectural Marvel

The Freedom Mobile Arch features North America's largest free-span wood roof, spanning over 73 metres and constructed entirely from Canadian timber. The roof incorporates 1.2 kilometres of beams, covering a total area of 12,356 square metres. The project took three years to complete.

Capacity and Configuration

The venue holds up to 10,000 people, including a grass seating area. The floor-level seating is removable, allowing for configurations as small as 1,000 or less, and can create a large dance floor area.

Weather and Accessibility

The grass seating area at the top is fully exposed to the elements, while upper tiers may experience wind. The roof design aims to make the venue usable year-round, though bundling up is recommended. Access ramps from the floor to the upper levels are at a reasonable angle but are exposed to weather.

Sight Lines and Acoustics

The venue features wider tiers than traditional sports arenas, making movement easier. Stage placement ensures good visibility from all areas. Acoustically, the Freedom Mobile Arch uses staggered speaker placement to reflect sound downward clearly, avoiding high stage volume.

Noise Mitigation

To reduce sound bleed into nearby neighbourhoods, a raised, curved concrete backing wall has been built behind the shell, also helping to block traffic noise.

Quotes from Officials

Freedom Mobile president and CEO Pierre Karl Péladeau stated, "The Freedom Mobile Arch embodies our commitment to investing in the communities we serve. Being part of Vancouver and B.C.'s cultural history, alongside an institution as iconic as the PNE, is a real privilege." PNE president and CEO Shelley Frost added that the venue reinforces the PNE's century-plus promotion of arts and culture and opens up opportunities for live performances.
