Five June Art Exhibitions and Events to Explore in Saskatoon
Five June Art Exhibitions and Events in Saskatoon

Five art exhibitions and events around Saskatoon in June offer a vibrant mix of multimedia works, Prairie landscapes, and community celebrations. Local galleries present themes of sky, land, collaboration, and history, joined by the outdoor Art in the Park festival after a six-year hiatus.

The Gallery/Art Placement Inc.

Jodi Miller's solo exhibition, What Colour is the Sky?, runs through June 13 at The Gallery/Art Placement Inc. The Saskatoon-based landscape painter draws from physical and emotional terrains of the Prairies. Her works feature expansive skies, textured fields, dusty gravel roads, shifting light and color, and atmospheric brushwork, inviting moments of pause and belonging.

In her artist's statement, Miller explains: "I paint landscapes from memory. When I begin sketching in graphite, I allow memories of my childhood on the farm and perhaps more importantly, the people I loved, to fill the canvas. These recollections guide the forms that emerge, grounding the landscape in personal history and emotional connection."

Art in the Park

The Caswell Hill Community Association hosts Art in the Park on June 13-14 in Ashworth Holmes Park, returning after a six-year hiatus. The festival features an Artist Village Market where artists and artisans showcase and sell their work. A music stage includes local acts like Bridge City Brass Band, the North Saskatchewan Regiment Pipes and Drums, and 5 Guys Named Dave.

There will be a community barbecue, food trucks, and children's programs in Kids ArtsFest, including author readings and custom poetry. Community association president Ty Johnston said: "Art in the Park embodies everything I love about this neighbourhood. I stumbled upon this festival eight years ago while visiting Saskatoon and it had everything I wanted in a neighbourhood."

Event hours are June 13 from 5 to 8 p.m., and June 14 from noon to 5 p.m. Information at caswellhill.ca/artinthepark.

Ukrainian Museum of Canada

The Ukrainian Museum of Canada presents Vinok — Gathered in the North by Yellowknife-based artist Erin Suliak, on display June 18 to Sept. 26. The exhibition reimagines the traditional Ukrainian vinok, or floral crown, using materials gathered in northern environments. It includes 12 vinky and photographs of the artist wearing each one in the landscape where materials were collected.

Each piece is rooted in a particular site, connecting land and heritage.
