Shakespeare by the Sea, the beloved outdoor theatre company in Halifax, has announced its 2026 season will open with a brand-new musical. The troupe, known for bringing Shakespearean classics to life in Point Pleasant Park, is expanding its repertoire with original works.
New Musical Highlights Season
Organizers shared a preview of what audiences can expect, though details about the musical's title or plot remain under wraps. The company typically stages two main productions each summer, drawing thousands of spectators. Last year, attendance exceeded 15,000, according to the company.
Artistic director Jesse MacLean said, "We are thrilled to introduce a new musical that celebrates our local community and talent. It's a bold step for us, and we can't wait to share it with Halifax." The season will run from June to September, with performances in the park's natural amphitheater.
Community Impact and Accessibility
Shakespeare by the Sea offers pay-what-you-can performances to ensure accessibility. The company also runs youth workshops and outreach programs. "We believe theatre should be for everyone," MacLean added. The 2026 season promises to blend tradition with innovation, appealing to both longtime fans and newcomers.
