Wes Anderson-Inspired Design Transforms Toronto Loft with Personal Collections
Wes Anderson-Inspired Design Transforms Toronto Loft

A Toronto loft transformed by Level Studio uses Wes Anderson-inspired design to celebrate the homeowners' travel collections, blending symmetry, pastel colors, and industrial elements. The 18-foot ceilings, exposed brick, and arched windows now frame personal treasures like puffin salt-and-pepper shakers and a Liberace souvenir plate.

Custom Millwork Anchors the Living Area

Level Studio co-founder Luca Campacci emphasized that the homeowners' collection became the design brief. The custom oak millwork installation spans the full length of the room, solving storage, display, and television housing while maintaining a clear pathway. Its upper shelving aligns with the mezzanine, and integrated lighting transforms souvenirs into art at night.

“In a space with 18-foot ceilings, a standard piece of millwork can feel undersized,” Campacci said. The design extends vertically with a gallery wall to maximize height.

Kitchen Renovation Reveals Industrial History

Removing the original dropped ceiling exposed open-web steel joists, restoring volume and authenticity. “Opening the kitchen ceiling changed everything,” Campacci noted. Mint-green tile, warm wood cabinetry, and orange pendants add playful color against the industrial backdrop.

A cool grey concrete-look luxury vinyl tile floor provides a calm base, while walnut accents create continuity. An aqua lounge chair on a puddle-shaped rug adds a sculptural touch.

Playful Details and Editing Process

In the ensuite, exposed mechanical pipes were painted blue for an unexpected design moment. Campacci highlighted that editing is crucial: “The home needed room to evolve as the collection grows.” The design avoids overwhelming the space while celebrating memories.

“We didn’t want a loft that looked like every other loft,” Campacci said. The result is a home that feels collected rather than decorated, personal rather than prescribed.
