Alex Rodriguez Admits Infidelity Led to Divorce in HBO Documentary
A-Rod Opens Up About Cheating in New Documentary

Former New York Yankees superstar Alex Rodriguez is finally breaking his silence about the cheating scandals that destroyed his marriage to Cynthia Scurtis, with both ex-spouses opening up in a revealing new HBO documentary series.

The Beginning of the End in Toronto

The first major crack in their relationship appeared in May 2007 when Rodriguez was photographed leaving a Toronto strip club with a mystery blonde woman. At the time, Scurtis was at home caring for their first daughter, Natasha, who was born in November 2004.

"He seemed to be extremely apologetic and not proud of his actions," Scurtis recalled in the second episode of HBO's docuseries Alex vs ARod, which premiered on Thursday.

The Madonna Affair That Ended Everything

Just over a year after the Toronto incident - and less than three months after the birth of their second daughter, Ella - Rodriguez became embroiled in rumors of an affair with music icon Madonna, who was married to Guy Ritchie at the time.

"We were together for about a year and then I got pregnant with Ella," Scurtis revealed in the documentary. "And then when Ella was first born, there was a very similar scenario."

Although neither Rodriguez nor Scurtis mentioned the Material Girl by name, the series displayed the New York Post's headline that bluntly stated: "A-Rod and Madonna Squeeze Play."

"At that point, we got divorced," Scurtis said matter-of-factly.

The Aftermath and Moving Forward

Scurtis filed for divorce soon after the alleged affair became public, citing that their marriage was "irretrievably broken because of the husband's extramarital affairs and other marital misconduct." The divorce petition specifically noted: "Alex has emotionally abandoned his wife and children and has left her with no choice but to divorce him."

Rodriguez has consistently denied the Madonna affair, telling People magazine the rumors were "absolutely ridiculous and not true," while Madonna's representative claimed they were merely acquaintances who shared the same manager.

In the documentary, Rodriguez stopped short of directly admitting to cheating but acknowledged his failures as a husband: "In hindsight, I could have been a better husband. I could have been more present. I could have been more loyal. I could have been more sympathetic, empathetic, all of it. You name it."

Remarkably, Rodriguez rebounded quickly after their split, noting: "The day we filed for divorce, I think we were playing the Red Sox. On that day, I hit a home run." He added, "Maybe baseball, the field is where I escape. I get to be the best version of myself - at least at that time."

Both former spouses have moved on with their lives. Scurtis is now married to Miami realtor Angel Nicholas, with whom she welcomed a daughter, Camilla, in 2016. Rodriguez, after relationships with celebrities including Jennifer Lopez, has been in a relationship with fitness instructor Jaclyn Cordeiro since 2022.
