Preston Harp, the estranged brother of White House aide Natalie Harp, has spoken out against President Donald Trump and his sister's relationship with him. In an interview with the Daily Mail published Thursday from Nicaragua, where he has lived since 2023, the 38-year-old described Trump as a 'national embarrassment' and said his sister's bond with the president is 'very unhealthy.'
Natalie Harp's Role and Background
Natalie Harp, a former anchor at the conservative One America News network, joined Trump's communications team during his 2024 presidential campaign and became his executive assistant after he was sworn in for a second term in January 2025. Her ties to Trump date back to 2019, when she appeared on Fox News praising the president for his support of the Right to Try Act, which she said allowed her access to experimental treatments for Stage 2 bone cancer. In 2020, Trump invited her to speak at the Republican National Convention.
Despite a relatively low public profile, Harp has come under fresh scrutiny following the publication of the book 'Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump' by New York Times journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan. The book reveals that Harp regularly supplies Trump with paper copies of positive media coverage, earning her the nickname 'human printer' from the president and his associates.
Letters to Trump and Family Estrangement
The book also shares contents of several letters Harp wrote to Trump. In one, she wrote, 'You are all that matters to me,' and in another, she proclaimed, 'I don't ever want to let you down' before thanking Trump for being her 'Guardian and Protector in this Life.' Preston Harp told the Daily Mail he has been estranged from both his sister and their mother, Jill Harp, since their father Robert Harp died in 2020. He said he 'had no idea' his sister worked for Trump until 2023, when the Daily Mail referred to her as Trump's 'glamorous new assistant.'
'It just kind of caused some cognitive dissonance,' he said. 'I don't understand why my sister, or anyone could want to work for Trump.' Described as a 'long-haired hippie,' Preston Harp called his California upbringing 'extremely conservative' and 'deeply religious,' noting that 'the focus for my mom's kind of Christianity just really seemed about preaching about hellfire' and that 'Natalie just kind of followed my mom.'
White House Response and Conservative Backlash
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt did not comment to the Daily Mail about Preston Harp's remarks but praised Natalie Harp as one of the 'most loyal and hardest working aides on President Trump's team.' The interview has been denounced by some prominent conservatives, including podcast host Katie Miller, wife of White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, who wrote on X: 'Natalie doesn't do interviews or talk to the media. This is too far and unwarranted.'
