The Unconventional Wedding
The couple married in December 2022 during a concert in Detroit, Michigan. They were performing a duet of White's song 'Hotel Yorba' when he proposed on stage, right before the lyric 'Let's get married in a big cathedral by a priest.' Ben Swank, co-founder of White's Third Man Records, officiated the impromptu ceremony.
A representative for White confirmed to People at the time that 'the marriage is legal and valid.' Jean later described the experience to the New York Times as 'the best experience of my life,' adding, 'You could plan a wedding for five years and it wouldn't compare to that.'
How They Met
White and Jean first met in 2009 after a concert by White's band The Dead Weather. Jean, then 19 and frontwoman of the Black Belles, left a collection of her demos around White's tour bus in a memorable manner that he witnessed. He later called and invited her to record with him in Nashville. Jean recalled to the New York Times, 'I put the phone down and then I just laid on the ground for a few minutes. Like, this is not real. This can't be real. This doesn't happen to people.'
Jack White's Previous Marriages
This divorce marks White's third marriage dissolution. He was previously married to White Stripes drummer Meg White from 1996 to 2000, and to model Karen Elson from 2005 to 2013. He shares two children with Elson.
