Kelly Osbourne Speaks Out Against Body-Shaming During Personal Struggles

Kelly Osbourne has publicly addressed the harsh criticism she faced after appearing at the Brit Awards, where she was body-shamed on social media. In a heartfelt message shared on her Instagram stories, the 41-year-old television personality expressed that she is currently experiencing the most difficult time of her life and condemned the lack of compassion shown by online trolls.

A Cruel Response to Vulnerability

Osbourne emphasized the particular cruelty of targeting someone who is visibly struggling. "There is a special kind of cruelty in harming someone who is clearly going through something," she wrote. "Kicking me while I'm down, doubting my pain, spreading my struggles as gossip, and turning your back when I need support and love most. None of it proves strength; it only reveals a profound absence of compassion and character."

The incident occurred after Osbourne and her mother, Sharon Osbourne, accepted the Brit's Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of the late Ozzy Osbourne during Saturday's ceremony. Kelly wore a black skin-tight dress, which prompted a flood of negative comments about her appearance.

  • One post remarked, "She looks older than her own mother."
  • Another user told her to get "off of ozempic."
  • A comment simply stated, "get her a cheeseburger."

Defending Herself Amid Grief

In response, Osbourne asserted her right to dignity. "I'm currently going through the hardest time in my life. I should not even have to defend myself," she wrote. "But I won't sit here and allow myself to be dehumanized in such a way!"

While Osbourne did not specify the exact nature of her hardship, it is widely known that her father, Ozzy Osbourne, passed away in July at the age of 76. His death came shortly after he performed a farewell concert with his band Black Sabbath, adding to the family's emotional burden.

A History of Body Image Struggles

This is not the first instance where Osbourne has had to confront critics regarding her body. Last week, she shared screenshots of abusive comments on her Instagram stories, expressing disbelief at the behavior. "Literally can't believe how disgusting some human beings truly are!" she told her followers. "No one deserves this sort of abuse!"

Osbourne has been transparent about her ongoing battles with body image and weight. In 2018, she underwent gastric sleeve surgery, resulting in an 85-pound weight loss. During a 2024 podcast episode, she revealed that an agency head once told her she was "too fat for TV."

Most recently, in December, just months after her father's death, Osbourne addressed body-shamers again in an Instagram video. "To the people who keep thinking they're being funny and mean by writing comments like 'Are you ill,' or 'Get off Ozempic, you don't look right,' my dad just died, and I'm doing the best that I can, and the only thing I have to live for right now is my family," she said.

Family Support and Public Backing

Sharon Osbourne has stood by her daughter, defending her on "Piers Morgan Uncensored." She explained, "She's right. She's lost her daddy, she can't eat right now." This public support highlights the family's unity during this challenging period.
