"Daily Show" correspondent Desi Lydic questioned what could be more important to President Donald Trump at this moment than ending the war in Iran. To nobody's surprise, the answer was one of his vanity projects.
A Distraction from War
"It's crazy that this war is not wrapped up already," Lydic said. "What is the president doing that's more important than ending this conflict?" Lydic then played a clip from "CBS News Mornings" detailing the Trump family's promotion of "Freedom 250"-themed silver and gold medallions to commemorate Sunday's planned UFC fight on the South Lawn of the White House.
The coins feature Trump's face and are being marketed as a collaboration between the UFC and the Trump Organization, which is headed by the president's sons, Donald Jr. and Eric Trump.
A Questionable Tribute
"Oh, OK. Ending the war is important, but a collab with UFC? I mean, that doesn't come along every day!" Lydic said. "Although I'm not really sure that a coin is the right way to commemorate a UFC fight. Seems like the kind of thing you commemorate with a tramp stamp."
Lydic added that a coin was an odd thing to market to UFC fans. "But a coin seems a little weird – like a weird fit for UFC bros, doesn't it?" Lydic asked. "The only thing I love more than fighting is cherishing sweet memories with decorative coinage," she added in the mocking voice of a UFC fan.
