Police Launch Investigation into Ruby Rose's Sexual Assault Allegation Against Katy Perry

Law enforcement authorities in Melbourne have officially confirmed they are investigating a serious allegation made by actress Ruby Rose against international pop star Katy Perry. The Melbourne Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) detectives are examining what police describe as "a historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010" at a licensed premises in the city's central business district.

The Allegation and Social Media Revelation

The investigation follows Rose's explosive social media posts this week, where the "Orange Is the New Black" actress responded to a Threads discussion about Perry's reaction to Justin Bieber's Coachella performance. In her initial post, Rose wrote that Perry sexually assaulted her at a Melbourne nightclub in 2010, adding pointedly, "Who gives a shit what she thinks."

When pressed for details by another Threads user, Rose provided graphic specifics, alleging that Perry pulled her underwear aside and rubbed "her disgusting vagina" on Rose's face. The actress revealed she had previously shared the story publicly but framed it as a "funny little drunk story" because she didn't know how to properly handle the trauma at the time.

Rose's Explanation for Delayed Disclosure

Rose explained that she kept the incident secret for years because Perry later agreed to help her obtain a US visa. "I told the story publicly but changed it to be a 'funny little drunk story' because I didn't know how else to handle it," Rose wrote. "Later she agreed to help me get my US visa. So I kept it a secret."

The actress emphasized the psychological toll of the alleged assault, writing that it has taken her nearly 20 years to come forward publicly. "The time shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes," she stated. Rose claims to have photographic evidence of the incident and says it was witnessed by multiple people.

Perry's Response and Previous Tensions

In a statement to HuffPost, a representative for Katy Perry called the allegations "categorically false" and "dangerous reckless lies." The statement further noted that "Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named."

This isn't the first public conflict between the two celebrities. In 2017, Rose criticized Perry's song "Swish Swish," which was rumored to be about Rose's friend Taylor Swift, who was then engaged in a feud with Perry. Rose slammed both the song's lyrics and Perry's political activism on social media before eventually backing down, tweeting at the time: "Get so triggered when I think bullies don't get held accountable and it makes me think I should say something... but it's not [my] place."

Ongoing Police Investigation

Melbourne police have confirmed the investigation remains active but declined to provide further details. "As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage," police stated in their official communication.

Rose hinted at additional damaging information about Perry, writing: "Plus there is so much more that happened in the years leading up to her silly song she won't want me discussing. The psychological manipulation was strong with that one."

The case represents a significant development in #MeToo era accountability, with a high-profile allegation now under formal police scrutiny nearly 14 years after the alleged incident occurred.
