Ryan Gosling Accepts Deidre Hall's Invitation to Visit Days of Our Lives Set
Hollywood actor Ryan Gosling has officially accepted an open invitation from veteran actress Deidre Hall to visit the set of the long-running daytime television series Days of Our Lives. The invitation came after Gosling publicly praised Hall and other soap opera performers during a recent podcast appearance, highlighting their exceptional work ethic and talent.
Gosling Praises Soap Opera Actors on Podcast
During an interview on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gosling expressed deep admiration for daytime television actors, stating they do not receive the recognition they deserve. The Project Hail Mary star specifically commended Deidre Hall for her portrayal of Dr. Marlena Evans, particularly during storylines involving supernatural possession.
"Days of Our Lives ... Soap opera actors in general — they do not get the love they deserve," Gosling said in a clip shared on Instagram. "The amount of dialogue they have to memorize, the night before, like 10 pages of dialogue. They get one take, and it's impossible scenarios."
Gosling recalled watching episodes where Hall's character was possessed by the devil, noting it was "an incredible acting class" and expressing amazement at Hall's ability to perform such challenging material.
Deidre Hall Extends Invitation to Gosling
After learning about Gosling's comments, Deidre Hall, who has portrayed Dr. Marlena Evans since 1976, responded with enthusiasm on Instagram. The 78-year-old actress extended a cordial invitation for Gosling to visit the Days of Our Lives set.
"We think it would be nice if you wanted to come over and see what we do in our neck of the woods," Hall said in her video message. "So this is an open invitation to visit the Days of Our Lives set. Nobody will be possessed. And if they are, I'll keep an eye on you."
Daytime Community Responds with Appreciation
Several other daytime television stars joined the conversation, expressing gratitude for Gosling's recognition of their demanding work:
- Melissa Claire Egan commented: "As if I couldn't love Ryan Gosling more!!! (it's 30 pages a day, btw?)"
- Annika Noelle from The Bold and the Beautiful added: "Sometimes we have 60 page days. Thank you for the love & recognition of the daytime community's hard work."
- Darin Brooks revealed soap actors often memorize "40-80 pages a day depending on how many episodes you gotta shoot that day!"
- Stacy Haiduk confirmed she sometimes learns "60 pages a day!"
- Sal Stowers wrote: "Thank you for shedding light on some of the hardest working actors I know."
Gosling's Enthusiastic Acceptance
In a follow-up video posted to Instagram accounts associated with his partner Eva Mendes and the film Project Hail Mary, Gosling enthusiastically accepted Hall's invitation. The actor called Hall his "OG acting inspiration" and promised to visit the set.
"Deidre Hall, are you kidding me? This is a very enthusiastic yes to a very cordial invitation to visit you on set," Gosling said. "I will be there to thank you in person for being my OG acting inspiration. It wasn't Marlon Brando in On the Waterfront. It wasn't Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver. It was you."
Gosling humorously addressed the possession storyline, saying "I'm not worried about the possession. I'll say a Hail Mary before I get there. I'll be fine. See you on set!"
Potential Storyline Suggestions Emerge
Following the exchange, Days of Our Lives cast member Hank Northrop, who plays Liam Selejko, suggested a potential storyline for Gosling's visit. Northrop proposed the actor could appear as "Gyan Rosling — jazz-loving demon hunter, All-State cornerback, and world-saving molecular biologist turned middle-school science teacher with Kenergy."
The interaction between the Hollywood star and daytime television veterans has sparked renewed appreciation for the demanding work of soap opera actors, who often memorize extensive dialogue under tight production schedules while delivering consistent performances for dedicated audiences.
