Shia LaBeouf Arrested Again in New Orleans, Faces Third Misdemeanor Charge

Actor Shia LaBeouf has been arrested once more in New Orleans, according to a report from Entertainment Weekly. This marks his third arrest in the city this month, with the latest incident adding a new misdemeanor charge to his legal troubles.

Details of the Latest Arrest

The 39-year-old actor was taken into custody on Saturday and charged with a third count of simple battery. LaBeouf's attorney, Sarah Chervinsky, stated that this arrest is connected to the same incident from February 17, during which he was initially arrested for allegedly fighting at a bar near the French Quarter during Mardi Gras. At that time, he faced two counts of simple battery.

Chervinsky explained that when police issued a new arrest warrant on Friday, LaBeouf voluntarily turned himself in at the Orleans Parish jail the following day. He posted a $5,000 bond and has since been released from police custody.

Attorney Criticizes Legal Handling

In comments to Entertainment Weekly, Chervinsky criticized the treatment of LaBeouf, arguing that he is being subjected to harsher measures due to his celebrity status. "No regular person would be required to post over $100,000 in bonds and be jailed two separate times for one misdemeanor incident," she said. "Just as he does not deserve preferential treatment, Mr. LaBeouf also does not deserve to be treated more harshly by the police and courts just because he is a public figure."

Background of the February Incident

The initial arrest occurred shortly after midnight on February 17, when LaBeouf was accused of attempting to punch a manager at the Royal Street Inn and Bar in Faubourg Marigny, adjacent to the French Quarter. He allegedly hit another patron who intervened and then punched another man in the nose before bystanders restrained him until police arrived. Following the altercation, LaBeouf was taken to a hospital, discharged, arrested, and charged with two counts of simple battery.

Court Orders and Personal Statements

At a recent hearing, a judge ordered LaBeouf to check into a rehabilitation facility, mandating that he seek treatment for substance abuse, undergo drug tests, and post a $100,000 bond for release, as reported by People magazine. Days after the hearing, LaBeouf spoke to Andrew Callaghan of YouTube's Channel 5, admitting fault for the incident. "I f—ed up, it's on me," he said, attributing his actions more to "anger and ego" than to alcohol.

He described becoming aggressive after three men touched his leg, stating, "I'll be honest with you: Big, gay people are scary to me. When I'm, like, standing by myself and three gay dudes are next to me touching my leg, I get scared. I'm sorry. If that's homophobic, then I'm that." He concluded by reiterating that he should not have resorted to violence, saying, "I am wrong for touching anyone ever, and that's the end of my statement on this whole s—."

This series of events continues to unfold as LaBeouf navigates the legal and personal repercussions of his actions in New Orleans.
