Justin Timberlake's DWI Arrest Footage Reveals Tense Custody Moments and Race Joke
Newly released police custody footage from pop star Justin Timberlake's June 2024 arrest in the Hamptons has surfaced, showing a mix of attempted humor and tension during the incident. The video, first posted by TMZ and subsequently released by the Sag Harbor Police Department in redacted form, captures Timberlake's interactions with Suffolk County Police Department officers after he was stopped for allegedly driving while intoxicated.
Attempted Humor During Booking Process
In one notable segment, Timberlake attempted to lighten the mood while reviewing paperwork related to his arrest. When asked to examine the documents, he looked at them and quipped, "White? I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding, man." This race-related joke came during what appeared to be an otherwise serious booking procedure.
The singer also engaged in banter upon learning he would be spending the night in a cell. "All night?" Timberlake asked officers. "Yo, you guys are wild, man." These moments of attempted levity contrasted sharply with other, more contentious portions of the encounter.
Tense Exchanges and Refusal of Testing
Body camera footage revealed significantly more strained interactions at other points during the arrest. When officers requested that Timberlake consent to a chemical test, he firmly refused while handcuffed. "No, I'm not doing the chemical test," he stated before adding, "Guys, I don't mean no harm..."
Timberlake expressed frustration with his treatment during the process, complaining at one point, "You boys treating me like I'm a criminal," as officers politely explained the traffic violations that led to his detention. The initial stop occurred after he allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and veered into the middle of the road.
Field Sobriety Tests and Legal Resolution
During field sobriety tests, Timberlake struggled to complete the exercises and remarked to officers, "These are like really hard tests." The footage also reportedly captured him invoking his celebrity status during the stop, telling officers "I'm Justin Timberlake" and expressing concern that "This is going to ruin the tour."
Despite efforts by Timberlake's legal team, the police department proceeded with releasing the video footage on Friday. The incident was ultimately resolved through a plea agreement reached with prosecutors in September 2024. As part of the deal for a lesser offense, Timberlake was ordered to pay a $500 fine and complete 25 hours of community service, bringing closure to the legal proceedings stemming from the Hamptons arrest.
