What Trump's Signature Dance Reveals About His Psychology, Experts Say
Trump's Dance: Body Language Experts Analyze His Moves

The Trump Dance: A Signature Move

For years, President Donald Trump has performed a distinctive dance at events and rallies, jerking his bent arms and clenched fists forward and backward to the Village People's 'YMCA.' This move has become a hallmark of his public persona, according to body language experts.

Clenched Fists: Dominance and Aggression

Experts note that Trump's clenched fists are highly symbolic and intimidating. 'When we see somebody with their hands in fists, it creates tension in our central nervous system,' said Patti Wood, a body language expert. 'Those balled-up fists are super dominance-oriented, they're aggressive,' added clinical psychologist Denise Dudley. The fists metaphorically signal 'fight' or 'alpha' behavior, contrary to the openness expected in dance.

Stationary Feet: A Lack of Movement

Trump's feet rarely move during his dance, which is unusual for a performer. 'The feet are the most honest part of the body,' Wood explained. While dancers typically shift weight or move across the stage, Trump remains planted, leaning side to side without picking up his feet. This lack of movement suggests a controlled, non-spontaneous performance.

Facial Expressions: Grimaces and Smirks

Instead of smiling, Trump often frowns or grimaces while dancing, with tightly held lips. 'He's grimacing as if he's exerting enormous effort,' Wood noted. Occasionally, he smirks, which may be an attempt to 'look cool.' Dudley added that squinting can be a victory gesture or dominant expression.

Crowd Signaling and Repetition

The simplicity of the dance makes it easy for supporters to mimic, turning it into a form of crowd signaling. 'All of his MAGA people can do that same thing,' Dudley said. 'It's a way he is signaling the crowds to do what I do.' The repetitive nature mirrors his speech patterns, being 'super repetitive and really simple.'

Psychological Insights

While a single dance cannot fully reveal Trump's psyche, the consistent moves offer a glimpse. 'Our body language reflects our emotional state,' Wood said. Trying the dance yourself can evoke feelings of negativity and effort, rather than the joy typically associated with dancing. Ultimately, the dance communicates force, control, and power over spontaneity and openness.
