The Hollywood satire The Studio, created by Vancouver-born talents Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, was the big comedy winner at the 31st Critics Choice Awards, held in Santa Monica on January 4, 2026. The Apple TV+ series claimed the night's top comedy honour and two acting prizes, continuing its remarkable awards season success.
A Triple Win for The Studio
The series triumphed in the Best Comedy Series category, beating out stiff competition that included Abbott Elementary, Hacks, Only Murders in the Building, and The Righteous Gemstones. This victory was part of a three-award sweep for the show.
In a personal win, Seth Rogen was named Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of stressed studio executive Matt Remick. During his acceptance speech, Rogen joked about his need for critical approval. "This is so nice as someone who deeply, deeply, deeply cares what critics think of them and their work," he said. "I can cancel therapy this week, this is like — I'm good. I'm fixed." He beat nominees including Ted Danson and Danny McBride.
Completing the trio of awards, Ike Barinholtz secured the trophy for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy for his role in the series.
Building on an Emmy Record
This Critics Choice success follows a historic night for The Studio at the Emmy Awards last September. The show set a new record for the most wins by a comedy in a single season, with 13 awards. Those wins included Outstanding Comedy Series, Lead Actor for Rogen, and directing and writing awards for both Rogen and Goldberg.
What's Next in Awards Season?
The awards circuit is far from over for the Vancouver duo's hit series. The next major event is the Golden Globes on January 11, 2026. The Studio heads into that ceremony with nominations for:
- Best TV Series — Comedy or Musical
- Best Actor in a TV Musical or Comedy for Seth Rogen
- Best Female Supporting Actor for Toronto's Catherine O'Hara
The continued recognition highlights the significant impact Rogen and Goldberg, who both hail from Vancouver, are having on the television comedy landscape with their sharp industry parody.
