Ottawa's Alanis Morissette has been chosen to perform Canada's national anthem at Friday's opening ceremony before the first 2026 World Cup match at Toronto Stadium (BMO Field), which will see the Canadian team playing Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Also performing are fellow Canadians Michael Buble, Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez, William Prince, Nora Fatehi, Sanjoy, Vegedream and Elyanna, while making an appearance will be FIFA World Cup 2026 Ambassador and Canadian actor Will Arnett (Arrested Development).
"The special performances will form part of the FIFA World Cup 2026 ceremonies, a celebration inspired by Canada's communities, rich diversity and the unifying power of football," said FIFA World Cup organizers in its news release.
Ceremony Details
The pre-match ceremony starts at 1:30 p.m. (TSN) before the 3 p.m. game, the first of six that Toronto is hosting. The first 2026 World Cup game in Toronto on Friday will see Alanis Morissette and Michael Buble among the opening ceremony performers.
- Fans at the stadium will play an active role in the show and are being told to arrive as early as 11 a.m. with gates opening four hours prior to kick-off.

The World Cup runs from Thursday until July 19 and includes seven games in Vancouver and more in the U.S. and Mexico.
