Singapore's AI-Powered Sci-Fi Universe 'Spore Fall' Lands Major Funding for Multi-Platform Expansion
In a significant development for Southeast Asia's entertainment industry, Singapore-based studio Edenstone has secured substantial funding to expand its groundbreaking AI-powered sci-fi universe 'Spore Fall' across multiple media platforms. The announcement follows the studio's successful showcase at Hong Kong FILMART 2026, where AI-driven content emerged as a dominant theme.
Silver Media Fund Backs Transmedia Vision
Silver Media Fund (SMF), regulated by Singapore's Monetary Authority and managed by One Apex Capital, has committed to structure and lead a capital raise for Edenstone's flagship intellectual property. This financing will support the transformation of 'Spore Fall' from a micro-drama series into a comprehensive transmedia franchise encompassing feature films, games, and collectibles.
"Spore Fall represents the kind of high-quality, globally resonant IP we exist to back," stated Chan Gin Kai, Golden Horse Award-winning producer and CEO of Silver Media Group. "It originates from this region, speaks to global audiences, and is built with a clear transmedia roadmap. That combination is rare—and worth backing."
Chan will join the project as Executive Producer, bringing his investment platform's resources to scale the IP across formats. The development marks a milestone for Southeast Asia's creative industries, positioning the region as an emerging hub for innovative storytelling.
From Micro-Drama to Macro-Franchise
'Spore Fall' launched as a 10-episode vertical micro-drama series, becoming Southeast Asia's inaugural project of its kind. Set in the fictional city of Lionara, the narrative follows a disillusioned soldier and rogue medic as they confront a deadly spore pathogen outbreak that threatens to either accelerate human evolution or end civilization entirely.
With SMF's backing, the franchise now embarks on an ambitious expansion timeline:
- 2026: Micro-drama series release (April-June)
- 2028: Feature film theatrical release
- In Development: Novel adaptations, interactive games, and Web3 collectibles
Innovative Production Model
The 'Spore Fall' project represents a new paradigm in content creation, integrating generative artificial intelligence into traditional production workflows. This hybrid approach enables smaller creative teams to develop visually ambitious intellectual property with enhanced efficiency while maintaining human creative direction.
The production model features three key components:
- Human-led writing: Scripts, character development, emotional arcs, and world-building remain firmly in human creators' hands
- AI-assisted visuals: Generative AI tools accelerate visual asset creation and high-concept world-building under strict creative supervision
- Scalable pipeline: The system enables serialized, visually rich content with long-term transmedia potential from compact creative hubs
"Our mission is to prove that a compact market like Singapore can build world-class genre IP without major studio backing," explained Joel Boh, creator and showrunner of 'Spore Fall.' "AI accelerates that journey—turning past constraints into our next creative frontier."
Regional Roots with Global Appeal
While technologically advanced in its production methods, 'Spore Fall' remains deeply rooted in themes relevant to Southeast Asian societies. The narrative explores collective resilience, shifting power dynamics, and adaptation through crisis—concepts that resonate across the region while maintaining universal appeal.
This development positions Southeast Asia as an emerging source of original genre storytelling, demonstrating that regional sensibilities can form the foundation for globally competitive entertainment properties. The successful funding round validates Singapore's growing reputation as an innovation hub where technology and creativity converge to produce distinctive intellectual property.
The expansion of 'Spore Fall' represents not just a single project's growth but a potential blueprint for future content creation in the region, combining artificial intelligence with human creativity to develop transmedia franchises that can compete on the global stage.
