On Tuesday, Michael Kosta, correspondent for The Daily Show, had to spell out an apparently obvious point to President Donald Trump regarding the war in Iran. This came after reports indicated that Trump had a less-than-friendly phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Kosta's Reaction to Trump's Realization
“It seems that Trump is starting to suspect that Netanyahu might be deliberately derailing the peace talks just to keep the United States in the war, to which I’d like to say, ding, ding, ding, dumbass,” Kosta said. An exasperated Kosta then questioned why Trump always seems to be the last person to arrive at an obvious conclusion.
“Why are we always watching Donald Trump discover shit that everyone else knew this whole time?” Kosta said. “He had no idea that peace in the Middle East is hard. He had no idea that the Strait of Hormuz is where oil goes through.”
Trump's Contentious Call with Netanyahu
“And now he’s like, wait a minute, does anyone else think the international war criminal is kind of shady?” Kosta continued, referring to Netanyahu. According to Axios, Trump and Netanyahu had a particularly contentious chat earlier this week, with the president reportedly calling the Israeli prime minister “fucking crazy.”
“You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me. I’m saving your ass. Everybody hates you now. Everybody hates Israel because of this,” Trump reportedly told Netanyahu during the call. The conversation between the world leaders occurred after Iranian officials indicated they would suspend peace talks with the United States due to Israel’s continued offensive in Lebanon against Hezbollah.
