Alex Cuba Releases 11th Album Índole with Star Collaborations
Alex Cuba Celebrates 11th Album with Latin Stars

British Columbia's internationally acclaimed musician Alex Cuba is celebrating the release of his eleventh studio album, marking another milestone in his decorated career. The Smithers-based artist, who has earned multiple Juno, Latin Grammy, and Grammy Awards, continues to expand his global reach with Índole, which dropped on November 7, 2025.

Global Recognition and Musical Evolution

Despite his Canadian roots, Alex Cuba acknowledges that his music often finds stronger resonance in international markets. His single Palabras Vacias is more likely to be heard in a Bogotá bar or Barcelona beach grill than in Canadian venues. Yet the artist remains genuinely pleased that his creations connect with audiences wherever they are.

The new album showcases Cuba's signature approach to handling most instrumental and vocal duties himself, with the notable exception of horn sections. "I don't play horns and don't expect to ever learn," admits the multi-talented musician.

Star-Studded Collaborations

What makes Índole particularly special are the high-profile collaborations that grace the album. Cuba has assembled an impressive roster of Latin music stars, including fellow Latin Grammy winner Robert Jr. Vizcaino from the Chucho Valdés/Paquito D'Rivera Reunion Sextet, Miami pop duo Bacilos, and celebrated French jazz vocalist Cyrille Aimée.

The lead track Espiritú Temba (Old Man Soul) features a dynamic duet with percussionist Robert Jr. Vizcaino. The song originated from playful banter between the two musicians following a joint tour.

The Story Behind Old Man Soul

During their time touring together, Cuba noticed that Vizcaino had absorbed mannerisms and slang from older Cuban artists he had worked with. This observation became a running joke between them on WhatsApp.

"I teased him, and he admitted that he sometimes worried that he had an old man's soul," recalls Cuba. "This dude may be the best percussionist at the moment in the world, but I wanted him on my record for his special voice. Hands down, he is the Cuban Barry White and shows it on Espiritú Temba."

Released through Cuba's own label Caracol, Índole represents both continuity and evolution for the award-winning artist. While his sound continues to captivate international audiences, his British Columbia roots remain fundamental to his artistic identity.
