Rolling Stones' 'Foreign Tongues' Album Includes Charlie Watts

The Rolling Stones have announced their upcoming studio album, Foreign Tongues, set for release on July 10. The 14-track record includes contributions from late drummer Charlie Watts, captured during one of his final recording sessions before his passing in 2021.

Star-Studded Collaborations

The album features guest appearances from Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, Robert Smith of The Cure, and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Frontman Mick Jagger and guitarists Keith Richards, both 82, and Ronnie Wood, 78, are expected to attend the album launch in Brooklyn on Tuesday.

New Single and Track Details

The new destiny-themed single, In The Stars, is available now, along with the opening track Rough and Twisted. A physical release of In The Stars is scheduled for May 15. The band teased the project with limited white label vinyl releases of Rough and Twisted under the pseudonym The Cockroaches.

Recording Process

Foreign Tongues was recorded in under a month at Metropolis Studios in West London. Jagger, Richards, and Wood reunited with producer Andrew Watt, who worked on the band's Grammy-winning Hackney Diamonds (2023). The core collaborator lineup includes bassist Darryl Jones, keyboardist Matt Clifford, and drummer Steve Jordan.

"I love doing these recording sessions in London at Metropolis," Jagger said in a statement. "It was a very intense few weeks recording Foreign Tongues. We had 14 great tracks and we went as fast as we could. I like the room there as it's not too big so you can feel the passion in the room from everyone."

Band Members Reflect

Richards added: "The Foreign Tongues album has a continuity from Hackney Diamonds and it was great to be working in London again, and to have that London vibe around us. It was a month of concentrated punch. To me, it's all about the enjoyment of it. I'm blessed to be able to do this and long may it last."

Wood commented: "The atmosphere in the room was so creative, and the whole band was on top form throughout the whole process. Very often we nailed it on the first take. I hope everyone loves it."

Tour Uncertainties

While fans await news of a potential tour, reports indicate that the Stones cancelled plans for a 2026 UK/European stadium tour after their 2024 Hackney Diamonds trek, citing Richards' arthritis struggles.
