Canadian YouTube Sensation Super Simple Songs Launches First Live Tour Across Western Canada

The massively successful Canadian YouTube channel Super Simple Songs, which has accumulated over 60 billion global views since its launch in 2006, is taking its content on the road for the first time with a live tour across Western Canada. The channel, which targets children aged one to six years old, boasts a subscriber base of 45 million people worldwide.

Caitie's Super Simple Songs Surprise Party Tour

The live production, titled Caitie's Super Simple Songs Surprise Party, will launch on March 17 at the Massey Theatre in New Westminster, with shows running from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase through the theater's official website. This marks the first time the channel's content will be presented in a live format, bringing its beloved characters and educational songs directly to audiences.

Caitlin Claessens, the Toronto-based host known for programs such as Caitie's Classroom, Move With Caitie, and Imagination Time, explained the channel's origins. "Super Simple Songs was started by two Canadian teachers working in Japan who wanted to incorporate music into the classroom as a teaching tool for very young learners," said Claessens. "But a lot of the material was either too unfamiliar or didn't include the content they were looking for in the curriculum. A nursery rhyme like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star doesn't include much in the way of helpful vocabulary and phrases for speaking English."

From Classroom Tool to Global Phenomenon

Founders Devon Thagard and Troy McDonald began by producing original children's songs designed specifically for educational purposes. Initially recorded on CD and shared with fellow educators, they started uploading teaching advice and music content to YouTube during the platform's early days. When they noticed that children were also watching their videos, they began creating content specifically for young audiences.

The channel's content has expanded significantly over the years and is now available across multiple platforms including YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Spotify, and the Super Simple website and app. Claessens joined the team when Super Simple wanted to expand into live streaming on YouTube, bringing her performance background from children's music classes in schools.

"Songs like Are You Hungry? or I Like Broccoli grew from teachers using it in class to online animation and puppets to live action, which is where I joined the party," Claessens explained. "Caitie's Classroom came out of that, where I could interact in real time with the audience, which was really, really cool."

The Expanding Super Simple Universe

Beyond Claessens' hosted programs, the Super Simple brand has grown to include numerous other products and shows. These range from the animated series Rhymington Square, featuring cartoon stories about characters like Lucky the Rubber Ducky, to the singing Super Simple Puppets. The channel continues to create new characters, shows, and educational content at an exponential rate.

"We like to joke that the Super Simple universe is a bit like the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) where different characters are connected in different ways," Claessens said. "So if you're a fan of The Bumble Nums, you might see little Easter eggs in certain music videos relating to other material. We are always creating new characters and shows and ideas, and it's grown exponentially over the years."

The channel's content includes everything from the Top 20 Farm Songs to educational segments like How to Say Hello Around the World, all set to catchy musical hooks that engage young learners. With its first live tour now underway, Super Simple Songs continues to expand its reach beyond digital platforms, bringing its educational entertainment directly to families across Western Canada.
