An American Airlines passenger in his 70s bit a fellow traveler and attempted to fight multiple people aboard Flight AA3046 from Charlotte to Philadelphia on Sunday, June 21, 2026, prompting the pilot to request emergency medical and law enforcement meet the aircraft upon landing.
Pilot reports combative passenger
According to air traffic control audio obtained by CBS News, the pilot of American Airlines A320 N111US reported the disruptive individual was hallucinating or experiencing a medical episode. “I don’t know… if he’s hallucinating or whatever, but he just bit a passenger and he’s trying to fight everybody,” the pilot told a controller. The pilot also requested that an emergency medical crew and law enforcement meet the plane at Philadelphia International Airport “just as a precaution.”
Airline confirms medical emergency
American Airlines confirmed the passenger was suffering a medical emergency. A medical professional on board assisted the individual before the flight landed. Emergency crews met the passenger after arrival, but the airline did not specify whether police were present. The Toronto Sun has reached out to American Airlines for further comment.
The pilot handled the situation calmly, telling the controller, “What a day, huh?” The controller wished the pilot a happy Father’s Day, to which he replied: “I’ll be sure to tell my daughters about this one.”
Growing trend of unruly passengers
Incidents involving unruly passengers are becoming increasingly common. In a separate case, a Delta passenger was removed from a flight from Miami to Atlanta after refusing to end a phone call before takeoff. The 46-year-old woman became “belligerent” when a flight attendant repeatedly asked her to hang up, forcing pilots to return the plane to the gate and all passengers to disembark.
Other recent incidents include an unruly passenger who was duct-taped by fellow travelers after allegedly trying to open a mid-flight door, and an off-duty Austrian police officer who subdued a disruptive passenger on a flight to Canada.
