"Late Night" host Seth Meyers took aim at President Donald Trump's latest attempt to assert control over the Strait of Hormuz, as the ongoing conflict with Iran shows no signs of resolution and gas prices continue to climb.
Meyers Criticizes Trump's Approach
"Trump's desperate for a way out of this mess," Meyers said. "Which is why he keeps announcing new fake solutions to the crisis he started that don't make sense and catch everyone off guard."
Meyers referred to Trump's announcement of a plan to guide ships through the Strait of Hormuz, despite the administration stating just last week that hostilities with Iran had been "terminated." When reporters asked Trump outside Air Force One on Saturday how hostilities could be "terminated" while the U.S. was still enforcing a military blockade, Trump characterized it as a "very friendly blockade."
Questioning the 'Friendly Blockade'
"A friendly blockade?" Meyers questioned. "Is there such a thing?"
By Monday, the situation was far from friendly, as both Iran and the U.S. exchanged fire in the Strait of Hormuz.
Public Opinion
A new Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll released Monday found that 62% of Americans disapproved of the job Trump is doing as president.
